Hannah Montana Game? 03

OK. So I turned in that week's worth of work, the color boards, and was done. Then a couple weeks later they asked me to do some placeholders, and a concept for a world map to select levels and options.

Here's the world map, it's about 3/4 done, got all the buildings designed, levels and other option zones...I left it all blocked in and then it was Xmas 07 break time, I was going to come back and finish it off, kind of tie it all together, lighting, perspective, etc. Then I got back from break, and the game was completely different, and this whole approach to starting the game was obsolete.

These were some options for a temp title screen, no colors or anything were defined yet...I still wasn't to sure if I was the guy or not to define these things, or just making really quick place holders for them, so it wasn't just white text on a black screen.

There was some attempt at a WiFi option, here a some concepts for personal icons...again no direction or design - just do.

Now these next two are from the third pass at the HUD graphic design, after I figured out I was actually the guy defining the graphics, so I took a little more care in the designs, along with feedback and direction from Diz and the developer. I include these in the 'old' game designs because the function was the same, it was still a picture taking game, just with entirely different goals and game engine...so functionally it's the same, just the little icons and the space definitions got changed around - the layout is still pretty close to the original.

I think the original graphics and colors all had a pass with the elements that made up the title screen placeholders...

Hannah Montana Game? 02

I think this is the first set of levels I started with. I have no memory at all of any kind of story for this one, maybe something about starting on the beach, and then the climax happens at the top of the volcano?

Beg for mercy, Montana!

Now this was cool, a robot Raptor sentry, I believe was cut before my week was over - too cool?

Some theme park stuff...

The bad kids suit up to cause trouble for poor Hannah.

Foiled again!

I guess my drawing got a little better as the week went on, but it went so fast I never got time to actually create characters and pose them before starting on the finals, the whole thing was so slapdash, the worst thing is to concept characters while doing boards whose intentions are to create the final look of the game! This is what happens when you try to do the front end stuff on the cheap...I'm looking at you, CFO's!

Hannah Montana Game? 01

I warned you. Hannah Montana Begins. This is the very first set of work I did for HM, originally it was one week, and I had to bust out 60-70 of these color boards. Some levels were already done, really beautiful work, but for my contribution, quantity was the goal.

This is get HM to the stadium level...I don't think I'll even take the time to explain what kind of game it was, taking pictures basically, but it changed at least three times in the 5 or so months I was associated with it.

YAY! She got there to sing her...songs?

A backstage level?

This is based on the Disney Studios back lot, I figured it would be appropriate.

Backstage Control Room. I have no idea what the game play would have been.

One last time...

Happy New Year, everybody!

OK, one last time with this thing, and then I leave it alone forever. I've been developing textures for my TF2 game characters, so I applied some of these techniques on this War Machine piece.

The punishment continues this week, where I unleash (and now I found out, not to be released!) Hannah Montana DS art! Stay tuned for Hannah Hell Week!

Merry Christmas!

I hate to be one of those bloggers who just disappear, but man...I got overwhelmed with juggling projects, general end-of-the-year stuff, trying to get everybody's presents, and get ready for vacation, which I am now officially on!

At least I left something cool up on the post for awhile...over on Siebertron.com they now have a video of that little guy transforming, and his name (thank the stars of Cybertron!) may NOT be Dirt Boss, but Scrapper - way cooler.

I got called back onto the TF2 game, doing something so cool that it kills me I have to wait until May to show the stuff I'm working on. I'll just say TF fans are going to be happy! But that means I'll be working all kinds of overtime, so posting might be spotty in January, expect a lot of sketchbook art and...gulp...Hannah Montana art. Ahem.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone!

Forklift Drone!

Dude...I am so happy to see this on Siebertron.com today.

I was sooo disappointed that this character didn't get a figure last time around. He was my favorite drone of the seven I designed, all that's left is the Mixer Truck, and then all my drones will toys. And I tell you now, if they make my Triple Changer Shockwave, AND call him Shockwave, my head will explode with glee.

Now I realize these guys don't fit in the movie canon, but I started working on these guys long before the movie concepts were final, Hasbro was very happy with our submissions for approval, so we kept going. We started off with a little guy (Forklift) and medium guy, (Car/Swindle) and a bigger guy, (Truck/Dropkick). Hasbro liked them so they ordered more. You can see the evolution of the characters complexity beginning with Swindle, and ending with Shockwave, about the time the concepts from the movie were handed off to ILM, who continued refining the characters even more.

So, in the end, they didn't match, but I'm happy to say I'm working on the TF2 game, and this next set of game characters I've been working on should match up pretty well. And even I don't know what the toys who/what/look like at this point. So don't ask!

Doodles from last night.

Just fooling around...I must be the last commercial artist to take a crack at the new Joker.
