Getting ready for Botcon tomorrow, here's a few more screenshots from the upcoming Revenge of the Fallen game.

This is a police car character I designed, Car #56 - my high school football number! Hopefully tomorrow I'll find out the official names for all these guys.

This is an F-18 Seeker character, the design I turned just had him painted the plain Navy gray, but we were trying to get Seeker colors, looks like Luxoflux - the developer - came through with this one painted purple and black to look like Skywarp.

And another of my characters turned to plastic, the little forklift guy from the first game gets released to the toy aisles tomorrow - go out and get him!

All right folks, wish me luck, I have meetings with IDW and Hasbro tomorrow to get more Transformers work!

Go to to see more screenshots and videos for the game!

Concept Art - APC 02

Here's a couple of failed attempts at getting this APC drawing started.
This is kind of a hard one to find the angle for, this view omits some of the back end I wanted to show, and the wheels are just terrible. Scrapped.
So then I went with a tried and true vehicle technique (that I now feel dumb for not just starting with) and placed the wheels on a flat horizon line, and created the angles with the templates I had. Start that way every time, kids. But, again the wheels are wonky, and the sizes aren't quite right, and the body is sitting a little too high, so....scrapped.

But this is pretty close, so I'll do an overlay and redraw the setup, and take it to finish.

Concept Art - Scout 04

Here's the grayscale block-in for the scout bike. Some more detailing, then it's ready to go to the next step...

Concept Art - Scout Rider 04

Final. It's fairly monochromatic, I'm going for a more beat-down Road Warrior type look, like these guys are out in the wilderness of the front for a looooong time.

Concept Art - Scout Rider 03

Here's the blocked in grayscale for the rider of the Scout Bike. You can see I mixed and matched the sketches a bit to get to the final design.

Now on to the detailing and colors...

Concept Art - Striker 02

Striker? I don't know what I was thinking...this is a gunship. Maybe it's codename is Striker?'s the pencil drawing for it.

I did this over the weekend for a buddy who is feeling TERRIBLE. He's a crazy fanatic for Michael Myers/Halloween, and since he can't get cookies, and probably doesn't want flowers, I drew him a picture.

Concept Art - Scout 03

Boy it's a busy day today....

Here's the marker comp for the Scout Bike. I'm still not too sure about those wheels, I'll probably beef them up for the final.

Concept Art - Scout 02

So here's the scout bike. Pretty much. Those wheels are a little wonky, I realize. I wanted this angle, and usually I draw the angle with what I have for ellipse templates...but not this time. The magic of digital will help me fix those in the next step.

I wanted something to evoke the light cycles from TRON, so I threw a pair of rollbars connecting the back to the fairing to create the arc in profile. Further stealing automotive design concepts from Syd Mead, I used no axle wheels, as I will with the APC. It's just cool. And I saw they used that concept for Kirk's moto in the new Star Trek movie. Because it's cool!

All right, on to the marker comp...

Concept Art - Scout Rider 02

Okay. Here's the grayscale comps for the designs, done in marker, with a little airbrushed marker overspray, white colored pencil, and a bit of white gouache. I'm not too happy with how I handled the scrapes with the paint...but since I learned how to do it in photoshop with the Prime piece, I'm not too worried about how the final will turn out.

So for the final, I'll go with the armored look on the left, but use the lower legs from the right, and combine helmet designs. I'll stick more with the form of the left helmet, but try to pull in the venting and hoses from the right.

On to the bike now...!

Concept Art _ Scout Rider 01

Okay, so here's some costume designs for the Scout bike riders. I like this one, he's got a little more armor based suit, and I think it would go with the design style of the vehicles a bit better.

This guy has more of a 'leathers' style of suit, with just shin and forearm gauntlets for armor. I do like his helmet quite a bit though, I may combine elements for the final.

Either way, I'll take them both to the next level with a marker comp, to see how the elements hold together with some value added, maybe I'll see more elements to combine when I get to the final color. That - incidentally - is why I drew them in the same pose, makes it easier to cross over elements for the final comp that goes to color.

Concept Art - Scout 01/Striker 01

OK, new scanner is up and running...

Here's the other vehicle sketches. There are less than the APC, because I let the APC decide the design language for the whole project. These are just shape explorations to get started with. I had a clear idea for what I wanted the striker air vehicle to look like, but I tried lots of things for the bike.
And so, since the bike is freshest in my mind, I'll take that to the next step first. Since it's exposed, I want to design a rider for it as well...

Revenge of the Fallen game trailer #2

Anybody you don't recognize from the movie pretty much mine. I'll be able to start showing all my new guys by the end of next month!

Broken Scanner...

Yes, I have lots more thumbnail sketches of the concept vehicles I'm working...but no new scanner until Friday afternoon...pffft.

Theme Park Review - California Tour 04

Finally got the copy yesterday, so here's the final. Looks like a fun trip, I'll try to meet them in Disneyland!

Concept Art - APC 01

Still have some down time. Which has went from much needed to a little uncomfortable. But I continue to work!
Need to punch up the portfolio some more, with non-specific designs. Maybe I'm inspired by the new Terminator movie coming out, disappointed by the crappy looking GI Joe movie, bored with doing 'real' vehicles? I have a hankerin' to do some vehicle designs...I'll start off with an APC, the idea being it's an advanced design of the Striker.

I'll do an air strike vehicle, and something like a motorcyle scout type vehicle as well, but since the APC is bulkier than either of those, I start with this to define the design sensiblilty, and carry it over into the other ones...

This is how I usually start the process, a ton of little sketches to get started. Mostly to find form and basic construction/detail. I have a tendency to sketch a little cartoony- so as I refine, the idea will get more sleeker and fit into a more real world context. I hope...
