Buttercats - Final

Here's the final...I felt the balance was off a little, due to the wings of the fairy, so I zoomed it in a bit, recropping it.

Here's the original framing:

I don't know, I could go either way...

Buttercats - Flats

Sorry, a little late - I was still asleepin'...!

This one is a little complicated, lots going on here, but before it's done, I'll have it reflecting the color theories, and make it tie into a lot more with the green theme for this one.

Buttercats - Inks

I got no words...it's 4 AM, and I just finished working.  So here's this.

Mer-Kitties - Flats

So this color theme is pretty blue, with a healthy dose of aqua green mixed in...but I have to be careful not to have too much green, as that is going to be the color theme for the fairy image, so the colors might change around a bit before I decide it's final.

Sky Kitties - Flats

And now, the color flats.  As I'm going along with these, I'm trying to give each one a strong color theme, and I'm going with Gold, on this one.

Still need to find the colors for the line work, highlights, shadows, and an overall overlay layer color to focus the characters a bit more...

Sky Kitties - Inks

Yeah. I'm finally coming back around on these kitty cherubs...here's the inks for the Sky Kitties, I went back and redrew the girls' wing, but other than that, it's pretty much the same as the drawing.  That said, before final, I may go back in and readdress some 'paw' issues...

Rex & Cody Color

I threw a quick color down, and called it good.  I usually do the line 'ink' work on a separate layer, so I can control the color of the line, this time it was just a drawing, though.  (because I really didn't have the time!) I thought I'd go old school (for me at least) and just color on a multiply layer.  To get some of the more dynamic shading, I soft-edged brushed a goldy yellow, contrasted by a blue/purple in an overlay layer, and dropped the layer opacity down, until I thought it looked subtle enough.

For the shading and highlights, I had a layer at 40% opacity, with a very dark blue at 100% for the shadows, and another layer at 20% with a 100% white, with a touch of yellow for the highlights.

So five layers altogether, the background drawing, the color (multiply, 100%) , the color overlay (overlay, 15%), the shadows (normal, 40%), and the highlights (normal 20%).

Rex & Cody 03

Rex, and Cody, and now some dirt!  Along with a little digital clean-up...dirt and clean-up, somehow that must be an oxymoron?

Rex & Cody 01

Captain Rex...

I found myself doing something I'd never thought I'd do.  Buy a Clone Wars...anything.  I've been hemming-n-hawing over these guys for awhile, so I finally broke down and got them...telling myself it was for extra proof of purchases to get another New Vintage Boba Fett - but I like 'em a lot.

And then I'd decided I'd do a quick draw and color of them for fun.

So there.

It's still not REAL Star Wars, ya know.

Why you no post, Kenny?

Hey, sorry to drop off the internets there for awhile, my wife had an operation with a five/six day hospital stay...and me being double booked, I was able to make arrangements with my clients (who were great, and supportive!) to do all the drawing work while she was stuck at the hospital, me with a little food table at her side, scribbling away.  The 'suck' of working for yourself; I don't offer myself a benefits package that includes sick days, holidays, or spousal support days.

So something had to give, and of course it was the blog, but we're back home, and I'm back to doodling in front of the TV after work...doodling.

So here we go again...
