Seahorse Sketches

I'm working on an idea for a short seahorse story...here's some sketches from last night. It's the very first pass at him, so nothing is really great (plus I'm a little rusty - haven't drawn seriously in this style for a couple months) but the one with the dot is the probably pretty close to the final head design.

I haven't even used reference yet for the body, so I'm not sure where all the little flipper wings go just yet.

Seahorses exhibit a variety of colors from mottled brown to bright orange to yellow. Seahorses can be difficult to identify as they can change color to match their surroundings. They often display startling color changes in unusual surroundings or in social moments.
